COMMUNITY CENTERS
MILES, TEXAS                         “A Small Town With A Big Heart!”
                        Weatherby Hall
Weatherby Hall is a community center maintained by the city of Miles. A variety of events take place here, from birthday
parties to health workshops to large family reunions.

The Hall is a historic part of Miles. It was built in 1929 as a Ford dealership. Every September its owners would hold a big
celebration to welcome the arrival of new cars. The dealership closed in the 1960’s and the hall was turned over to the city
and used as both the headquarters of the volunteer fire department and a community center.

The fire department constructed their own building in the 1990’s, and now the hall is used entirely for banquets, wedding
receptions, Quinceneras, arts and craft shows and other events.

Weatherby Hall is 50’ x 200’. The building can be used in its entirety or divided into two sections by a set of doors. The front
section (50’ x 40’) has a kitchen and can accommodate up to 125 people. It can be nicely decorated and has central heat
and cooling. The larger back section contains the restrooms. It has a concrete floor and is not heated or cooled. There is an
overhead door in the back section.

There is no charge for use of the hall’s furniture, which includes 254 metal chairs, 30 lightweight tables and 14 heavier
wooden tables.

Rental fee for Weatherby Hall is $100 per day. A renter must post a deposit of $100 prior to the use of the Hall. Any
cancellation must be made at least seven days prior to the date of the reservation. Any cancellation after such time will
cause the deposit to be forfeited.

There is no smoking allowed inside the building and renter will not have any glass beverage bottles inside the Hall or on the
outside premises.

The renter must consent to and sign a Rental Agreement Contract, which is available at City Hall, and present a valid State of
Texas driver’s license. After the renter has cleaned the building and left the premises, a city official will inspect it. The deposit
will be returned if everything is satisfactory.

The city requires any renters having a dance at the Hall where alcohol will be on the premises to hire two security guards for
the duration of the dance.

For more information on Weatherby Hall or its rental, contact the city secretary at 325-468-3151. City Hall is located at 110
Robinson on main street Miles.
     Miles Young Farmer Show Complex
The Miles Young Farmers worked diligently to build a show barn for our local 4-H and FFA students. As time has
progressed . . . the community has asked to use the facility for other events. It had no heating, cooling, flooring, restrooms or
kitchen. It was just a barn with a caliche floor. The group has now added a cement floor, a kitchen with microwave, stove
and refrigerator (these were donated by the Miles Young Homemakers) and restrooms have been added. A $5000 grant
from the Federal Land Bank Association helped with the purchase of tables and chairs. In addition to all of the hard work by
the members of Miles Young Farmers, the Miles Preservation Authority committed to a $2000 payment annually for nine
years to help with the other items needed. This is an extremely nice facility that is available for rent.
