Located just 17 miles east of San Angelo, Miles is easy to find and worth discovering. 
The city has been designated as "Film Friendly" by the Texas Film Commission!!

Miles is a rural community just on the edge of where West Texas begins.  We may be small, but we are bursting with history and hospitality.  Our downtown buildings and brick streets bear witness to the days in the early 1900's when Miles was considered a "wild west town". 

The city was named after Jonathan Miles after he gave a large donation to the Rail Road so they could continue their railway. 

Miles is the home of the Ideal Food Store which has been in business for over 80 years, the well known Sklenarik's Smoked meats - home of the best jerky and smoked meats that Texas has to offer, several antique shops, specialty shops and a variety of other businesses. 

Miles Independent School District is second to none and offers the best education in a small school atmosphere.  Miles is a Nationally recognized Blue Ribbon school and also has State recognized athletic programs.

The area has an abundance of deer, quail, turkey and dove which provides for excellent hunting.

**** 2026-2027 Tax and Budget notices***

 *Small taxing unit Notice*

     The CITY OF MILES will hold a meeting at 6:30 PM on September 8, 2026 at Miles City Hall, 110 N Robinson, Miles, Tx. 76861 to consider adopting a proposed tax rate for tax year 2026.  The proposed tax rate is $0.304595 per $100 of value.
     The proposed tax rate would increase total taxes in City of Miles by 10.86%.
Visit texas.gov/propertytaxes to find a link to your local property tax database on which you can easily access information regarding your property taxes, including information about proposed tax rates and scheduled public hearings of each entity that taxes your property.  The 86th Texas Legislature modified the manner in which the voter-approval tax rate is calculated to limit the rate of growth of property taxes in the state.

*Public Notice for 2026-2027 Budget*

     The proposed 2026-2027 budget for the City of Miles is currently available for viewing at the City Hall at 110 N Robinson.  The City of Miles will hold a public hearing on September 8, 2026 at 6:30 p.m. to consider adopting said budget.  This budget will raise more total property taxes than last year's budget by $13,872 or 9.56%, and of that amount, $2,261 is the tax revenue to be raised from new property added to the tax roll this year.
